More than once I have opened the paper to find pictures of children riding their bicycles in dangerous ways and without helmets!
One example is “Monroe Street antics,” Page A4, Nov. 7.
As a mother of four and a community pediatrician, I have a hard enough time trying to urge parents to require their children to wear bike helmets, without your paper publishing pictures showing otherwise.
Just drive around a little and you’ll find plenty of smart children with loving parents who require helmet use. You won’t have to look hard. Why don’t you use them as your examples in the paper?
Head injuries from unhelmeted riders are very, very common, very serious and even deadly. Let’s all join together in trying our best to prevent these avoidable injuries. Wear your helmets, children and adults alike!
