Disservice to Gen. Lee to compare him to Ryan

Comparing former Gov. George Ryan to Gen. Robert E. Lee does a grave injustice to Gen. Lee.

President Lincoln granted Gen. Lee amnesty for a couple of reasons. First, Lee's actions came during a time of war and were therefore justified. Second, Gen. Lee was a moral and honest man. He indicated on more than one occasion that he was saddened by the tragedy of war.

During this holiday seasons how many families will be missing loved ones who died due to George Ryan selling drivers licenses to people who could not otherwise get them? You may remember that Ryan's actions only came to light as a result of several fatal accidents. It was only due to the investigations following these accidents that Ryan's misdeeds were made known.

My final question to those who feel he should be pardoned is this, does admitting you are wrong remove you from the consequences of your actions? Bill Kaminski
