Several letter writers spew the liberal talking points, citing private insurers' greed as the rationale for ObamaCare.
Obama stated, "They're (insurers) making record profits and premiums are going up ... the way (to keep cost form being passed along) is to make sure that there is some competition out there."
The facts do not support this argument.
According to Yahoo, the industry as a whole survived on a net profit of 3.3 percent.
Compare that to GE at 7.91 percent, Walt Disney at 8.88 percent, Starbucks at 2.5 percent or Dreamworks Animation at 23.67 percent. Three insurance leaders - Humana, UnitedHealth and Aetna - all made less money in 2008 than 2007. So much for record profits and yet another Obama lie!
Combined gross revenue of the three was $141 billion with a net income of $4.9 billion. GE by comparison had gross revenue of $182 billion and a net income of $17.4 billion.
It appears liberal companies are greedier than health insurance, but I don't see Congress and Obama demonizing or subpoenaing them.
Real greed proliferates in Washington, nourished by an insatiable appetite for more power over our lives and money - an unsustainable path to our self-destruction.
Bush added $2.5 trillion to the public debt over eight years. Obama and the Democrats surpassed that amount in several months!
We cannot continue to spend trillions with no regard of how to pay for the indulgence.
In 2008 the interest on our debt was $451 billion!
We cannot afford Washington or ObamaCare.
