This is in response to the letter, "State shouldn't support 'needs' of others" (YourViews, June 12).

How old is the writer? Is she middle class or high middle class and what is her level of education?

I am a 52-year-old woman with a high school education who started working at 14. I, too, have paid my taxes and raised two kids. I have been looking for full-time work for almost a year and I am still paying taxes on my unemployment. My class is low or poverty now.

The last few years in my life, I never would have thought I would be in this situation.

People with opinions like that letter writer are generally wealthy and nothing bad ever happens to them. They would let kids, disabled or senior citizens go without food and medicine.

Someone I know got hurt at work about six or seven months ago and, to this day, has never received a workers' comp check. Should they do without, too?

One thing I have learned is never say never because you don't know what will happen to you or your family. I won't go into any details of my situation, but I will tell you that a lot of people are in the same situation.

Show a little kindness because one day you might need it.
