Two close calls for person in crosswalk

Pedestrians need to beware walking near the Calvary Christian Academy. On Nov. 11, while walking my dogs in the crosswalk at the corner of School and Summit streets, I was nearly hit by a woman in a black SUV as she crossed School Street.

I was almost half way across the street at the time she started across and had to quickly pull back on my dogs’ leash or they would have been run over. I saw her pull into the school parking lot and head inside.

Another dog walker just behind me began shaking his head and said how stupid — and illegal — this woman was for trying to drive through a crosswalk while a pedestrian was in the process of getting across the street.

A month earlier, a similar incident happen on the sidewalk near the entrance of the church. I was walking on the sidewalk and someone pulled into the parking lot in a hurry to get to the school. Had I not seen him out of the corner of my eye and pulled back on my dogs’ leash, they would have been killed.

I did notify the church and they made an attempt to find out who did this. These people are showing a lack of regard for the law. WWJD? He’d allow pedestrians the right of way and protect God’s creatures.
