The steep cuts outlined in "Double cut? Planned reductions to human services program may hit disabled twice" Saturday are slated to go in effect if the budget shortfall is not resolved by July 1.
A host of human service agencies throughout the state of Illinois face the same demise, and time is of the essence.
Individuals like Linda McClure stand to lose their living quarters and livelihood.
Budget constraints barreling down on the Department of Children and Family Services would discontinue System of Care services for youth in foster care.
Safety nets for children and families serviced through DCFS would be compromised with work force reductions and office closures/consolidations. Caseload ratios are set to skyrocket from 15:1 to 50:1. The list is endless, with sweeping repercussions across the board.
We are charged to consider the least of these among us. If you are inclined to do so, I urge to contact your respective representatives in support of maintaining vital human services. If you are a lawmaker, I implore you to consider the plight of these individuals as you head back to Springfield.
