When looking at the health care issue being debated, I ask myself, "What would Jesus do?"
Having grown up in a good Christian home, I remember the parable about the Good Samaritan. The Samaritan soothed his wounds with olive oil and wine and bandaged them. Then he put the man on his own donkey and took him to an inn, where he took care of him. The next day he handed the innkeeper two silver coins, telling him, "Take care of this man." Luke 10:25-37.
There are also the many stories of Jesus healing multitudes of people. And Jesus went about in all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of disease and all manner of sickness among the people. Matthew 4:23
Jesus did not charge for his healing, which is something we could do with the public option on health care. It seems clear that good Christians should be advocates of a health care plan that provides health care for everyone, just like Jesus teaches us.
