We just wanted to let everyone know that good Samaritans are still alive and well and there is one living in your city.
On Oct. 9 in pouring rain, we got off of a train coming from Chicago - we had flown out earlier in the week from Napa, Calif., to spend four days in Chicago and then go on to Bloomington for my class reunion at Illinois Wesleyan University.
We were lugging two big pieces of luggage as well as a backpack and carry-on and knew we had to catch a cab to get to the airport to pick up our rental car.
While waiting to get off of the train, the person in front of me struck up a conversation. When she found out what we planned to do, she very graciously said, "I'll give you a ride to the airport." She could not have been nicer - it was pouring rain and there were no cabs!
What a wonderful ambassador for Bloomington/Normal - and she told us she was the former mayor of Bloomington. Thank you, Judy Markowitz. Good Samaritans do live!
