Fight for retention of preschool program

I am saddened, along with many other families, that my second daughter will not have the opportunity to be a part of a wonderful preschool program next year at Normal’s Community Activity Center.

The programs offered there for children are truly fabulous, with heart-warming teachers that really love the children in their classrooms.

I feel information about this decision has been swept under the rug quite swiftly so it can be a topic that had been done and over with. Well, it will not.

Parents are willing to fight for their child’s education. I am a parent of two and also have a 19-year-old brother with special needs who should have been able to take part in the Occupational Development Center program as of this fall. Well, the table was turned.

What are we to do except to fight for education for kids?

If Fairview Elementary’s test scores are bad enough for the school to offer to parents a different school of choice for their child, then why are we taking away other vital programs in our community that help early child education and further education of those desperately in need?
