Oppose laws treating immoral acts as moral

In urging against a ban on homosexual marriage, a letter from a professing Christian included Bible quotations along with reference to freedom and equal rights considerations. But creating a right to marry someone of the same sex does not necessarily follow from constitutional principles that recognize a right to marry someone of the opposite sex.

And taking the Bible as a whole - from a perspective which neither dismisses the possibility of it being God's revelation nor disregards historical evidence that Jesus is who he claims and is claimed to be - it's found that:

God's admonition to love others does not override his commands about sex. Leaving the judgment of persons to God doesn't justify failure by Christians to warn about acts which he has said are sinful and contrary to his design.

Loving the sinner and hating the sin is a valid distinction. That's God's attitude and it should be ours. The Bible teaches that all are sinners - including those who sin homosexually - but also that forgiven sinners are those who reject neither God's mercy in Christ nor his spirit, who empowers a desire to obey God's commands.

Speaking the truth in love - Ephesians 4:15 - means having genuine concern for those who continue in unrepentant behavior, which leads to an eternal hell. Romans 1:16-32; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11; Jude 1:23 and several other similar or relevant passages illustrate that concern.

This principle from Ephesians also leads to speaking against proposed civil law which treats as moral what God regards as immoral.
