United States needs national health care

I recently watched "Bill Moyer's Journal." On this program the former executive of a health insurance company - Cigna - Wendell Potter, described how attacks are devised to defeat a public option for health care.

Here is some of his testimony before the Senate Committee on Commerce:

"I know from personal experience that members of Congress and the public have good reason to question the honesty and trustworthiness of the insurance industry. Insurers make promises they have no intention of keeping, they flout regulations designed to protect consumers, and they make it nearly impossible to understand or even to obtain information we need."

Mr. Potter's entire Senate testimony can be found online.

For-profit health insurance companies are in business to make money. This should always be considered. It is in their interest to deny and limit coverage.

Watch the movie "Sicko" by Michael Moore. Understand that insurance companies and their media cohorts did everything possible to discredit this film.

Whatever your politics, his movie "Fahrenheit 9/11" in 2004, pegging President Bush, gives him credibility.

Our seniors already enjoy Medicare and Social Security, successful programs championed by progressives. National health care is not an experiment. We have proof it provides better care at lower costs - even in Israel.

An important consideration is the stake media's health-care advertising revenue may have on slanting coverage.

Remember, no Brit or Canadian would ever favor going back to our broken system.

Do we want Wall Street executives to continue making our health-care decisions?
