I recently had the misfortune of having an error on my credit report. Somehow, someone else's information ended up on my report. That however, was not the worst of the problem.
The "problem" was when I tried to reach the credit reporting agency that had the errors. Now, I am not saying that the error was their fault entirely, however, I am saying that the way they handle these situations is to state bluntly deplorable.
I was hung up on. I could not get to a live person. I was treated as though I were a criminal. A situation that should have been easily handled took the majority of the day.
These agencies have so much power over our lives. We can be turned down for loans, homes and even jobs based on their word alone. My question is: Who is truly monitoring them?
This error should have been caught long before I caught. I feel that these agencies are not infallible and should be somehow held accountable. They should not have the right to treat individuals the rude way I was treated. Yes, I will be writing my elected officials.
