Pondering why people don’t “get” President Obama, the answer seems elusive. President Obama has an optimistic outlook for this country and its people. One is left to assume the hatred comes from racism. You relentlessly see and hear it every day.

Romney made the not-so-subtle comment recently that “no one has ever asked for my birth certificate.” Not subtle at all; no, I’d say pretty much in-your-face racism.

President Obama has greatly improved our lives over the past 3{ years. His leadership over the next four will give everyone, not just a few, the opportunity to have a stable, productive middle class.

Surely, you didn’t think we were going to emerge from this toilet the Republicans flushed us down in only a couple years? Those thinking we should be out of the sludge by now simply aren’t being logical or reasonable. Forward, not back!

RE: " this toilet the Republicans flushed us down"

I have lots of political discussions daily- both here and elsewhere. Have shared w/ many over the years. But I have a personal rule about keeping things on the high road and not diminishing myself or others by stooping to levels that get derogatory, and my standards regarding her above comment are why she and I won't be having a discussion.

"drove the car into the ditch" would have been just as descriptive and on the high road [ intended] of the situation this President inherited. I find it interesting that Republicans complain about this administration not fixing quickly enough the mess that they had created. I look back 4 years and where we were headed then and compare it to today, and find myself optomistic.

How is Romney's comment racism? And I would like to know how we are better off now than we were 3 years ago, maybe if you are on welfare or other public assistance. Yeh we are so much better off, instead of paying $1.89 a gallon for gasoline we now pay nearly $4, a pound of bacon is now nearly as much compared to under $2 three years ago, our national debt has nearly doubled also. I could go on and on but people like this author will never see it, nor agree that it is true, WE the people are not better off than we were!

Just remember it is your Republican (oil) friends who are behind the rising gas prices. I know who this family is voting for in the next election for President and any House and Senate members and it won't be who you will be voting for. It's time they get their corporate welfare ended and put controls on Wall Street and banks.

Kathy lives in fantasy land. Obama has done nothing productive. He printed money to give Kathy HOPE, and now she will vote for him again. He gave people free phones, and they will vote for him again. Who pays for the perks, not the people who get them. Redistribution. This is a really scary path, but Obama does not care as long his lemmings come to him for survival. Kathy and her cronies always throw race into the mix as a scapegoat. It comes down to ideals and economics, not race.

Today is one of those ugly days when my initial reading of a letter casts serious doubt about the Bloomington Pantagraph (credibility), it's (poor) financial status, and whether I should continue both my print and online subscriptions... I ask myself, why should the Pantagraph allow such an accusatory and baseless letter where a writer essentially accuses "everyone across the isle" of being a racist.......without any foundations in fact. But, I remember that we are a free country and do so appreciate "freedom of speech" ......however inflamatory and baseless. So, Kathy, I do not appreciate the typical LIBERAL policy of accusing people as being racist at any point of disagreement......Let's stick to the facts.....are we better off than we were 4 years ago.....Yes, BHO was handed a mess. Yes hea has tried to solve our problems. However, here are some facts:
1-We are now 16 trillion in debt headed smartly toward 17 trillion....and the exalted one says that the debt is not all that concerning in the short term.......ca ching, ca ching, ca ching and mounting.
2-We have 47 million people on food stamps and rising.....
3-47% of American workers pay no federal income taxes...
4-47% of Americans are supported by a government check or subsidy....
5-The relative wealth of Americans has been reduced by a staggering average 40% in the last 3 and 1/2 years.
6-Unemployment has stayed above 8% for the longest time in history.
7-One in two children need financial / supply help to be successfully admitted to school.
And, you Kathy, say racism, really.....Please identify the racism in my notes above.....Beyond that, BLOOMINGTON PANTAGRAPH....I am appalled at the printing of this baseless letter!

Racism is used by the liberals to deflect Obama;s miscues and poor leadership. His plan for the future is more of the same poliiciws used in the first term(hopefully his only one) Hire 100,000 teachers with no money to pay for them and we still will have an education system that will not solve our problems. We need a leader who will lead and not play to peoples emotions. This letter does not show how Obama has help move the country forward all he has done in this term is to work at getting reelected.

Racism, voter fraud, Kathy you must have something better to do with your time. Clinton started this mess with a "home ownership for everyone." A house of cards destined to fall. Both political parties were side by side in this mess. I don't care your color, your political affiliation, your religion, just elect a leader who can fix this mess. Too bad you aren't on the same page. If I were to use your logic, then that would make you a social communist, but I won't stoop to playing those games.

Points not worth commenting on this notion.even if it is true, nobody will own up to it. Some folks have a problem with our president being part black. It makes them realize how well he's done and how poorly they have done.

earlyriser54

It is not the black part of Obama that I find troubling. It is the divisive, progressive liberal, socialistic Europeon economic model,, big government, bypassing Congress to further his agenda, and the unlimited coruuption that shourds his administration parts, that offend me.

I lean conservative on nearly all issues but a couple of social ones. I strongly believe in self reliance. I strongly adhere to a hand-up vs. a hand-out. I believe reliance on welfare is a learned and passed-down "career-path" and has ruined many an individual, entire families, entire neighborhoods- indeed entire cities- and contributed greatly to the development of a perpetually poor dependent class. Not to mention has largely supported and fostered a political party. If this letter-writer translates my beliefs as racism I strongly object, but the main thing is that none of the men of color who I date feel the same as she does. Thank goodness.

The vast majority of Americans have seen their economic status crumble under the leadership of this administration. Obama has squandered precious time and resources he could have used to improve the economic state of the country, paying off his political supporters, pushing a socialist agenda that even democrat politicians wouldn't support without bribes and coercion, and failing miserably on the foreign affairs front, where we now see even our friends questioning our will and resolve. . Not only has Obama failed to turn the country's economy around, he has added a tremendous burden of debt and layers of bureaucratic nonsense and regulatory burdens, and he his inflammatory rhetoric is dividing the country between the industrious haves, and slothful have nots. His rhetoric is provocative, destructive and counter-productive and the only justification he provides is empty slogans such as "Social Justice!" and "The rich should pay their "fair share"!"

The facts of the matter is that Obama talks a good game, but his actions are horribly wrong. He is not the man for the job, his policies are driving the country bankrupt and his political philosophy is causing untold pain for millions.

Do not kid yourself, the whole "birther" issue is nothing more than in your face racism. If you do not realize this, ask yourself, has a birth certificate been an issue for any other recent candidates?

Wat Tyler
Wat Tyler

On August 20, 2012, Obama demanded that Romney release his tax returns. There is no law that requires the release of these tax returns, it is just a political ploy that Obama used in the past, against Hillary, to win a little advantage. And no one describes this political maneuver as racist.

Birth certificates, college records and his passport and medical records are pertinent records that help establish the candidates qualifications for the office of President. Obama has not released any of these records, and anyone that mention the fact is tarred with the label "Racist" .

The Senate Majority Leader, a Democrat with a particularly unsavory past and unexplained wealth garnered as a Senator, has publicly speculated that the Republican candidate paid no taxes for ten years. Based on nothing more than the absence of records to prove otherwise. And no one accuses Senator harry Reid of racism.

What are we to believe? That legitimate questions posed to white candidates are acceptable but the same kind of questions posed to black candidates are racist? According to the Oxford English Dictionary, a racist is "a person who believes that a particular race is superior to another." The leap from asking a candidate to produce pertinent documents to the accusation that the person asking the question is a racist is just another example of the partisan democrats use of the race card as just another political ploy to get cheap advantage.

Cheap shots and dirty tricks are a hallmark of the Chicago style of Politics that and Obama and his campaign managers are past masters of those despicable tactics..

Obama give us free phone, What started out as a program costing a few hundred K in 1985 has turned into a program costing over a billion a year.
Nancy Palosi's daughter interviewed people in Mississippi. She asked people if they could find a job would they take it, all said yes. She then went to Harlem and asked the same question. The responses were or should have been embarrassing. No, why should I work, I get obama buck. Why should I work when obama is giving me free stuff. Yep, he has helped some people continue to be dependant. Lying about what happened in Lybia all the time knowing the video (as dumb an idea as could be) had nothing to do with 4 Americans being killed. The fact obama got info from Stevens as well as others the situation was getting worse. Yep, obama helped the families of the deceased. Wat until the Bush tax cuts expire. You hate them simply because Bush did it. The middle class is really going to be getting a lot of help. Just a few of the ways you are being helped by obama.

Racism of course does exist and it's a despicable thing. I'm guessing the letter writer didn't know she was about to "host" a Tea Party." Looks like everyone came. The letter writer never accused anyone personally of being racists, even tho she does seem to have hit some pretty deep nerves. The responses are typical when people refuse to face the truth. As far as 'presenting' documents, Pres O has presented more documents than any other candidate for Pres. No other cand has been forced to prove they are an American citizen and show their B IRTH CERTIFICATE! So please, do not act naive about the very real racism that exists. And wswsr was that a veiled racist remark regarding Pres O's birthplace? And you were saying what?

Truth is there are far more Americans that see Obama and the liberals for what they really are than the blind followers attempting to explain how these policies are good for America. I can not wait to see how you libs react when you lose power next month.

Let's talk real racism. - - - - It was the Democrats who fought to keep blacks in slavery and passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws. The Democrats started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks. The Democrats fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s.

During the civil rights era of the 1960s, Dr. King was fighting the Democrats who stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs.

......Democrats have been running our inner-cities for the past 30 to 40 years, and blacks are still complaining about the same problems. More than $7 trillion dollars have been spent on poverty programs since Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty with little, if any, impact on poverty. Diabolically, every election cycle, Democrats blame Republicans for the deplorable conditions in the inner-cities, then incite blacks to cast a protest vote against Republicans.

In order to break the Democrats' stranglehold on the black vote and free black Americans from the Democrat Party's economic plantation, we must shed the light of truth on the Democrats. We must demonstrate that the Democrat Party policies of socialism and dependency on government handouts offer the pathway to poverty, while Republican Party principles of hard work, personal responsibility, getting a good education and ownership of homes and small businesses offer the pathway to prosperity. The democrats put a afro-americian in the white house - - - - the culture continues!!!!.

"ownership of homes"....................does the housing bubble come to mind??

Part of conquering racism is adapting and learning how to better deal w/ it when it occurs. Both the ugly blatant stuff, as well as the more subtle variety.

I'm not saying be walked on, don't call folks out on it, or just take it.

But I am saying one must safeguard their own sanity.

As a gay guy I was always pretty sensitive to how folks treated one another, racism, bullying, etc. Against myself and also others.

But comes a time when a stiffer/stronger backbone can play a good role too.

We've made tremendous progress across the generations. But will it ever be totally GONE? Most likely not.

Perhaps one good key is in how we react?

Just sayin'...

Kathy, I understand more about Obama than I ever cared to. I'm just amazed at the power that comes with putting an uppercase "D" after your name. Can you imagine the rioting and mayhem that would be going on now in the country given these deplorable economic conditions, if Obama didn't have an uppercase "D" after his name? Somehow, the "D" excuses you from any responsibility. (It's always somebody else's fault.) You can spend most of your time playing golf, instead of actually doing your job of serving the people. (No, the people DO NOT serve the president.) You can schmooze with airhead celebrities on the View, or appear on late night TV, instead of fixing the problems facing this nation. You can pretend your best friends and cronies are not the 1%, when in fact, they are some of the wealthiest, yet miserly, stingy people when it comes to giving away THEIR money, but they LOVE to give away YOUR money, especially to people who don't want to work. None of this has anything to do with race. Please everyone get out and vote Obama out.

Kathy you state, "one is left to assume the hatred comes from racism. You relentlessly see and hear it every day." Yes Kathy racism is everywhere BUT it is ONLY viewed to be against the po black race. From what I have studied Kathy Obama is the most racist President that we have ever had. I'm shocked at one-sided racism when it comes to Obama supporters. If we do not like or support him then they play the race-card and call us racist. Look at Obama himself, when he got involved with the black professor arrested by the white police officer and Obama called the officer "stupid." Though the officer was just doing his job Obama never had the character to apologize so he invited to the White House for a beer. Then there was the Trayvon Martin/George Zimmerman incident and Obama involved himself by saying if he had a son he would look just like Trayvon which stirred up some major race-hate though Zimmerman only fired one shot from his perfectly legal 9mm to get the 6'3" Martin to stop beating his head into the sidewalk. Obama's DOJ did nothing to the New Black Panthers for their intimidation at the voting polls in the 2008 election in Philadelphia. Obama turned a blind eye for the Panthers when they put a bounty (murder) on the head of George Zimmerman. Even when they declared war against whites and called on blacks to kill white "crackers" on April 9th of this year Obama and the liberal media said nothing! If that had been the KKK or American Nazi Party calling on whites to kill blacks it would of been all over our news media as a hate-crime with NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus, Jackson and Sharpton in total outrage! So Kathy, your right, racism is alive and well today especially against the whit race.
