Gov. Romney hoodwinked President Obama in their first debate. Obama, coming to argue against Tea Party convictions, found himself facing a moderate Romney who abruptly shifted from conservative principles.

Romney said some regulation was necessary for business to function. He also said he wasn’t going to reduce the “share of taxes” paid by high income people. This so flustered Obama he had to keep looking down at his note cards to find something to say.

Romney who established state health insurance in Massachusetts now prefers a voucher system using private insurance. He said he “just as soon not have the government telling me what kind of health care I get.”

Has he ever dealt with a private health insurance company?

"Hoodwink" implies deceit, duping or misleading. So I entirely disagree.

BO's performace was terrible. Surprising since he's only ever been an absolutely dynamic public speakier up 'til now.

I know not what to credit for BO's fumbling and befuddlment, but it cannot be blamed on MR.

Chubby---------------I suspect that the reason for his fumbling and befuddlement was the absence of his best frien, the teleprompter.

Dealing with an insurance company is 20x more preferrable to dealing with the federal government. You just have to know your plan, educate yourself.

Look at this, YOU are the only one sho still supports Obama in this group so far. I think as the next three debates unfold you are going to either admit you have been wrong all this time or your cheering section is going to get considerably smaller.

Boy do I have a deal for you! I'm going to cut your taxes by 20%, increase defense spending by 2 trillion dollars and reduce the deficit on the back of Big Bird.. If you buy that I got some more crap to sell you.

LOL Well said!

We definitely DO NOT NEED someone whose body language reeks of failure and lies running the country. He's got a lot to answer for to the people of Massachusetts, for one.

Romney was just doing his Clint Eastwood impersonation... Debating an empty chair. Obama's great speeches only come when he is in front of a crowd of kool aid drinkers. When someone challenges him he folds like a cheap suitcase. It is no wonder that US is being challenged around the world. We are paying the price for Obama's weakness.

I think Obama acheived exactly what he set out to acheive. He did not give Romney the openning to discuss what he meant by saying he didn't care about 47% of the population and he allowed him to flip flop about what he proposes on the taxes and health care which was totally different than what he has been saying up to this point. I think Obama did an excellant job letting Romney show exactly how much of a cheat he really is.

Poor Bill. Since Obamas introduction to the world he has been spoon fed softball questions, molly coddled by the press and has relied solely on a teleprompter of pre prepared speeches to give the appearance of a brilliant orator. When Obama faces an opponent on a level playing field Obama is shown to be the arrogant and angry aggitator he truly is. If anyone has been "hoodwinked" it is the mindless minions of Obama supporters who have fell for all the hype about this empty suit of a candidate. Obama did not get hoodwinked by Romney, he got DEFEATED by Romney with facts, statistics, and a losing record Obama accumulated on his own. I can not wait to see Paul Ryan chew up and spit out Joker Joe Biden later this week. The liberal democrats are once again going to be exposed for what they really are, and it not a paramount of intelligence and elegance.

The reason Obama was out preformed was that he had no idea of what Romney was talking about. Romney kept talking about how to fix things that have gone unfixed for four years now. Obama wanted to talk about how the government is going to take care of all of us. The democrat collective on this blog can do nothing but discredit, put down and call names because, just like Obama their idea is to let the government take care of them.

I'd say Romney won fair and square. Even if 90% of what he said was BS, Obama should have been able to retort.

Why do people hate that teleprompter so much? Would a 3x5" index card be acceptable?

Jose
Jose

It's not the teleprompter they hate. It's the whole idea that if Obama had responded the way he should, the clueless mob mentality of the regressives would have misinterpreted his righteous anger as "black rage" -- you know, their usual tired old claims of racism.

Euler 314

Apparently blacks cannot be angry without being labeled violent or whatever is the current term for "how DARE they be angry at being attacked, labeled, pushed aside..."

If you're white, however, it's "righteous" anger.

There is an element of satire in Bill's letter. The crux of his point is that Romney has gone through a number of ideological metamorphoses over the years including a few position changes recently. Wasn't it several rival Republican candidates that called Romney the etch a sketch candidate during the primaries? Yes, we all know that Romney cleaned Obama's clock during the debate. That doesn't change the validity of Bill's points. A little satire and humor helps digest the rancor of the campaign.

I was disappointed in the President's performance, and I think Romney pivoted: he moved closer to the center. That being said, I won't be voting for Romney/Ryan. Their proposals scare the heck out of me.

Maybe you should sit down and read how Obamacare is going to ration your healthcare and limit your choices, but it's gonna cost most people more than what they're paying now for private health insurance. Yeah, everybody's gonna have healthcare, but it won't be anything like what most people have now. That's only one of many reasons why I won't be voting for Obama/Biden.

Romney used the number "$90 billion" five times in the first presidential debate, claiming, "In one year, (Obama) provided $90 billion in breaks to the green energy world … into solar and wind, to Solyndra and Fisker and Tesla and Ener1."

That is incorrect in several ways. That $90 billion, as described in a report provided by the Romney campaign, wasn’t provided in one year, wasn’t distributed primarily via tax breaks, wasn’t primarily provided directly to companies, wasn’t primarily spent on solar and wind, and wasn’t spent at all on Fisker or Tesla.

In reality, more than 60 percent of it was directed to state and local governments and utility companies for energy efficiency, transportation and electrical infrastructure .

We rate his claim False.

This is just another example of the distortions and falsehoods that Romney spewwed during the debate.

Bless your heart, Bill, for attempting to defend the "great one". You must've sat down right after the debate was over, wrote this letter and hit the send key before the Dem pundits and spinmeisters came out with the official explanation regarding why Obama bombed in the debate. It wasn't Romney's fault at all. Obama simply didn't have enough time to adjust to the mile high altitude. It's obvious you've been hookwinked by Obama. By writing this letter, you're trying to hoodwink others. Isn't it shameful that someone who retired from academia is trying to hoodwink the public?

Bill to answer your question; Yes, Romney in his 25 years of business HAS worked with insurance companies. This experience has given him knowledge to understand that the ACA (obamacare), is the biggest democrat collective hoax ever perpetrated on the American people. Reid had no problem letting this one go to the floor of the senate for a vote. Remember Reid has not let one republican bill come up for vote in many years now. Remember in November to vote YOUR choice, but please vote.

Obama has been HOODWINKED by his own collective; First it was the altitude of Denver’s fault (Al Gore stated), then it was because Romney lied (David Plouffe stated), then it was that Romney cheated by bringing secret notes written on a handkerchief (Harry Reid stated), then it was that he was thinking about how to fix the economy and stop jobs from being lost (Michelle Obama stated), then it was the moderators (Jim Lehrer) fault (Stephanie Cutter stated – Obama campaign chief) now it is John Kerry’s fault (David Axelrod stated)…I thought it was Obama’s fault since he was the one on stage…he was the one speaking (sort of)…he was the one who “got bored” during his practice sessions…guess I was wrong. Next they will blame the teleprompter for not showing up!!! These guy's have more excuses than ol'e jimmy carter could think of.

The debate just showed how in tune Obama really is. Ideally an incumbent president can run on what he has accomplished to better the American dream....he has nothing. He had two full years of democratic lead house and senate and blew it. How unfortunate we have so many people who are delusional about this president.

Wat Tyler

Obama did not get duped. He went into the debate overconfident, Maybe he believed all the negative ads he has sponsored, or maybe he believed the press when it said he was the superior debater, or maybe he believed that Romney would defer to him as the president. Whatever. Romney walked all over him and the majority of the country believes that Romney wiped the floor with the hapless Obama. Obama was supposed to be the debater supreme!! He looked like a high schooler with a few memorized quotes he was ready to riff on (Apologies to High School Debaters!)Obama tried to use scare tactics, attempted to define the Romney economic plan as clueless, deceitful and a windfall for the rich. Romney took his arguments apart with style and skill and with logic. His answers were complete and addressed the vague innuendo and voodoo math that Obama tried to use to dupe the American people. Obama's scare tactics didn't work. Obama then tried to denounce Gov Romney as just another rich man robbing from the middle class. That looks a little silly when you understand that Obama is rich, he has depleted the black middle class 30% in this term and has buried the American middle class with his policies and rules.

Obama is shockingly incompetent no matter which index you use. He got away with it in 2008 because he was so far under the radar before the election people focused on his looks, his back story and his charisma. Now he has a record. He has a political history and he has decisions and their outcomes we can use to see how his style will affect us our families, our pocket books, our relations with other nations and the fabric of our society. Obama has presided over 4 annual trillion dollar deficits in a row and has allowed the Senate to block 4 annual budgets (Obama signed the 2009 budget after Nancy Pelosi held it up when she should have given it to President Bush to sign.) Obama is an arrogant dilettante, a doctrinaire communist, and a hard ball political operative that has lost sight of good and proper and now aims for whatever will give him the political advantage to get re-elected.

Actually, the reason for the change talking about health care and insurance companies that Obama was thrown off had a lot to do with the powerful Americans with Disabilities.

For years, we have tried to get the point across, that yes, Health Care needs to improve, but the current one that is in place now is MUCH more harmful than what Americans with Disabilities was trying to convey. So then, the group had no choice but to move on to the next potential candidate, Mitt Romney, and lo and behold, he listened! His group and team listened!

The bill alone, is designed to assist only 30 million uninsured Americans. However, what the Obama Administration failed to understand, along with Congress, is that there are 64+ MILLION Americans with Disabilities, who are also taxpayers. Most of this segment IS the uninsured population, BECAUSE insurance companies do not want to accept the group for insurance. AT the same time, the Supreme Court ruled that any state can opt out of medicare, which was the ONLY avenue left for people with disabilities to get any kind of support since insurance companies, for the abled-bodied population, is the normal way to be able to cover medical costs.

In short, the Obama Administration put the Americans with Disabilities between a rock and a hard place... and unbeknowest to the Mass Media, they have no idea that the major bulk of this population will now vote for Mitt Romney.

It's really unfortunate now for the Obama Administration, because, with Congress now on Recess until AFTER the election, there's no feasable way for this bill to get adjusted before Election Day.

They should have listened... and they didnt.

COLOSSAL RED HEARING from the democrat collective, just more lies.
The Obama administration is to blame for this one, they had to approve the sale to a foreign company that always said they were going to move from Freeport, IL.
Sensata is an international corporation based in the Netherlands. The bulk of Sensata’s manufacturing is based in china. Sensata's spokeswoman, Linda Megathlin, said the company bought the plant from Minneapolis-based Honeywell essentially to get its customers. Most of the plant's revenues are generated in Asia, leading logically to the decision to move to China.
