I want to express how sad I was to read in the Pantagraph about the Jan. 23 death of high school teacher and theater director Connie Link.
For decades, Connie has had an enormous positive impact throughout Central Illinois on hundreds of high school students. I am one of them.
I first met her in the late 1970s when I was a young actor at the Normal Parks and Recreation High School Summer Theater program. She possessed an infectious mix of dry irony and genuine enthusiasm about her work, and managed to not only be a teacher but also a friend.
Working with Connie was usually quite fun, and always very interesting. At a muddled and malleable moment in my childhood, she helped shape the journey my life has taken for nearly 30 years, and I will be forever grateful.
Her death is a huge loss to high school theater students in Central Illinois.
