OAKLAND PARK, Fla. - A Florida man who shot a pit bull when it latched onto his dog's neck will not face charges, police said.
Anthony Dippolito, of Fort Lauderdale, said he heard his 5-year-old mixed-breed boxer scream Friday morning and saw the pit bull attacking his dog. The pit bull's owner was beating his aggressive dog, and Dippolito threw a small satellite dish on the terrier, but it didn't budge.
Dippolito, 49, said he then got his .45-caliber handgun and shot the pit bull. His dog, Crystal, suffered gashes and a quarter-size hole to her neck.
The Broward County sheriff's office said the pit bull was euthanized at the owner's request.
