The announcements came as students are being called to engaged in national walkouts in March to protest gun violence in schools.

The annual show has vendors and demonstrations for almost every home improvement project you can think of.

Show hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The show is hosted by Bloomington-Normal Area Home Builders Association.

A celebration will be Saturday at the McLean County Museum of History, which will include refreshments, youth portrayals, dance performance and panel discussion. The program begins at 12:30 p.m.

Jenkins is nominated for best supporting actor for his work in "The Shape of Water." Metcalf is nominated for best supporting actress in "Lady Bird."


... to the Children's Discovery Museum for its new logo and its new executive director, Beth Whisman. The logo incorporates a paintbrush, a gear and hammer, showing the facility's focus on hands-on science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Whisman is former director of the McLean County Museum of History. Her appointment to CDM was announced earlier.


... to the Bloomington Public Library for making it official: the board wants to expand the library at its current site.

The library had been at the center of a discussion about future plans for the downtown area. Now that the board has made its choice official, city leaders can move forward with other ideas and plans.

... to Lisa Pieper on her retirement from Children's Home & Aid Society after 42 years of service to the community.

As regional vice president, she had administrative oversight for programs and staff for the Bloomington-based Central Illinois region and the Rockford-based northern Illinois region.
