March 4, 1918: Bloomington will field a new minor league team this year if the Central Baseball League can get started. Bloomington is one of six proposed teams along with Peoria, Evansville, Richmond, Ind., and Springfield, Ohio. The league still needs Terre Haute.

March 4, 1943: The Teen Age Dance Club is up to 990 members with a dance coming up Friday night. Mayor Mark Hayes plans to be there to sell the 1,000th membership. Don Foote’s orchestra will play. The Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors the club.

March 4, 1968: Baskin-Robbins is opening the newest of its 600 stores in Eastland Mall. Most famous for its 31 flavors, the shop will also have freezers with see-though tops for customers to see the ice cream selections. The manager will be Helen Swartz of Muncie, Ind.

March 4, 1993: Chad Collins, an employee of a boarding kennel on Beich Road, was on the spot when fire broke out. He rescued seven dogs, deposited them in his shiny red sports car, and fought the fire with an extinguisher. “Good job,” firemen said.
