I join with others who mourn the fatalities and injuries at the Texas church Sunday. I believe that these events have too often been quickly forgotten as not being appropriate for wide discussion of gun policy right away.
We need wide discussion of the patterns of violence in the United States which are much worse that in other nations.
One particular issue concerns me a lot. There has been too rapid of a linking of the shooters to mental illness. It would be an error to make that connection to people who need and are willing to seek needed mental health care. We do not want to give the idea that people with mental health problems are likely mass killers.
