I enjoyed Bill Flick's Sunday column as always, but even more so as he focused on Pontiac being a nice and friendly town as seen through the experience of a traveler.
I raised my family in Pontiac and chose to do so because it was and is a friendly community. Ironically the traveler featured in the column was on his way to North Chicago, another community with which I have ties.
I was raised there, oldest of seven children, son of a World War II Navy veteran who married a "townie" and stayed in the city next to Great Lakes Naval Training Center.
Proud of both communities, I just had to point out that it is North Chicago — a city at least 40 miles north of Chicago — and not north Chicago that was the destination of the traveler whose daughter was graduating at Great Lakes.
