Weather curtails corn yield
BLOOMINGTON — McLean County’s corn yield is expected to rank a little below the past few years due to variable rainfall patterns and a cooler-than-normal July and August, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture predicted a yield of 189 bushels per acre statewide.
Pub II replaces floor
NORMAL — Pub II, 102 N. Linden St., was limited to its outdoor beer garden for a few days in late September while the floor inside the tavern was replaced by Sublime Flooring of Bloomington, said Pub II General Manager Luke Rokos.
Home sales up slightly
BLOOMINGTON — Home sales in McLean County for the first eight months of 2017 ran slightly higher than in 2016, with 2,006 closings, according to statistics from the Bloomington-Normal Association of Realtors.
B-N jobless rate drops
BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington-Normal area jobless rate dropped to 4.2 percent in August from 5.3 percent in August 2016, the Illinois Department of Employment Security reported, and the statewide rates were 5.2 percent in August and 5.8 percent in 2016.
CoreLife Eatery to open in Normal
NORMAL — CoreLife Eatery, a New York-based chain founded in 2015 that specializes in organic, non-GMO salads, grains and soups, will join The Original Pancake House and a still-unidentified third restaurant in a building under construction at the former Wild Berries site in Normal.
Lucca Grill changes owners
BLOOMINGTON — Lucca Grill gained new owners in September — Tony Smith and John Koch, as LGP (Lucca Grill Pizzeria) Enterprises — but they have a long history of their own with the legendary eatery in downtown Bloomington as longtime managers.
Starbucks opens in uptown
NORMAL — A new Starbucks, the eighth in the Twin Cities, opened Sept. 18 inside the Hyatt Place hotel at 200 Broadway Ave. in uptown Normal with a staff of 21 employees and daily hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Microbrewery eyed for Empire St.
BLOOMINGTON — Jeff Mroz and Mike Hoff plan to open a microbrewery, Keg Grove Brewing Company, which would produce and sell beer but no food or other products, in the spring at Constitution Place at 712 E. Empire St., Bloomington.
Bing's Wok now Kochi sushi eatery
NORMAL — Kochi, all-you-can-eat sushi and hibachi grill, with table service in a small setting, opened in August at the site of the owners' former restaurant, Bing's Wok, 1540 E. College Ave., Normal.
