Bloomingotn downs Mount Pulaski
Senior Kristin Petrinec had seven kills, five blocks and eight service points to lead Bloomington High School's volleyball team as the Purple Raiders improved to 21-1 with a 25-23, 25-21 victory over Mount Pulaski in a nonconference match Tuesday night at Mount Pulaski.
Ashley Beyer added seven kills and 10 digs for the Raiders while Kristin Stauter finished with 20 assists. Lauren Seyller also had seven kills for BHS.
Allison Durchholz had nine kills and 16 digs to lead Mount Pulaski (9-4). Kaitlyn Kutz added four kills and five digs for the Toppers while Jeri Kaye Turner had 17 assists and three digs. Amy Meister finished with six kills, one block and one dig for Mount Pulaski.
Central Catholic prevails
Megan Schmidt had 13 kills and 10 digs to lead Central Catholic as the Saints defeated Prairie Central 27-25, 25-10 in a Corn Belt Conference match at Fairbury.
Molly Trainor had eight service points to lead the Saints' offense, while Kristyn Mysker added 11 assists. Megan Fitzgerald had one block for Central Catholic (12-9 overall, 6-1 Corn Belt).
"We didn't play our best volleyball tonight," said Central Catholic coach Emily Kabbes. "Our passing wasn't what we wanted and we made too many errors in game one."
Kenber Galloway had four kills to lead Prairie Central (1-14-3, 0-7) while Jackie Sheppard added seven blocks. Kati Rathbun recorded seven service points and Kari Diller picked up seven assists for the Hawks while Kelsey Schopp had five digs.
NCHS rolls past Eisenhower
Jordan Menendez registered 10 assists and six service points and Ashley Bronke added nine digs and six service points as Normal Community (14-1, 4-0) rolled past Decatur Eisenhower, 25-9, 25-15 in Big 12 Conference action at Normal.
U High knocks off Rantoul
Kyndell Highland contributed seven kills and 11 service points as University High downed Rantoul 25-15, 25-9 in a Corn Belt Conference match at Rantoul.
Maggie Bee and Taylor Bruns each had nine assists for U High (10-6, 7-1). Ashlee Sang added seven digs, while Liz Harbers and Tanya Ploense each had two blocks.
West rallies for win
Laura Wilcox registered a team-high nine kills and Trish Waibel added eight as Normal West rallied from a first-game loss to defeat Champaign Central, 22-25, 25-13, 25-20 in a Big 12 Conference match at Normal.
"Our offense wasn't quite on in the first set,'' said West coach Maggie Erlenbaugh. "Trish and Laura did a good job of picking up our offense in the second set. We did a great job in our passing game."
Jenn Harr paced a solid passing game with a match-high 31 assists for West (11-9, 3-1). Liz Heineman added nine service points, including a pair of aces, and 16 digs while Kelsey Detweiler chipped in nine service points, including three aces.
Calvary Baptist falls at home
Alyssa Barth had team highs of 16 service points and nine blocks to lead Calvary Baptist in a narrow 25-23, 21-25, 17-25 loss to Decatur Christian in an ECIC match in Normal.
Amanda Turbett added 12 service points, 13 assists and seven digs for Calvary Baptist (6-6, 3-5) while Shelby Koehl led the Crusaders with six kills.
"We gave them a great match, it just came down to who wanted it more," said Calvary Baptist coach Sue Arbuckle. "We're very evenly matched teams. It's always fun to play them."
