Dee-Mack wins tourney
Katie Nunley and Alexa Price contributed six kills each as Deer Creek-Mackinaw downed Flanagan 25-20, 25-22 Saturday in the McLean County Volleyball Tournament championship match at Lexington.
Nunley also contributed 11 service points and three blocks as Dee-Mack improved to 31-1-1. Kate Poorbaugh added 20 assists, while Brittany Smith had 10 digs for the Chiefs.
Flanagan (27-7) was led by Megan Laughlin with 14 kills and three blocks. Liz Hillman chipped in 12 assists and 10 digs, while Karie Timmerman had three blocks and Meganne Forney eight service points.
Lexington took third place by beating El Paso-Gridley 25-12, 25-20. The Minutemen (20-12) received 18 assists and 10 service points from Megan Sleep, while Maggie Johansen chipped in seven kills and five assists. Brittany Kiefer had eight kills for EPG (17-10).
Heyworth earned the consolation championship with a 25-23, 25-13 victory over Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley.
PBL second in SVC
St. Joseph-Ogden downed PBL 25-15, 25-22 in the Sangamon Valley Conference Volleyball Tournament championship match at Gilman.
PBL (16-7) was led by Emily Vest with 13 service points, five blocks and five digs. Amanda Schuldt also had five kills, while Rachel Kleinsteiber contributed three blocks and Lauren Bowman 10 assists.
CPCI (23-10), which lost to PBL 25-22, 21-25, 25-22 in the semifinals, took fourth. Champaign St. Thomas More beat CPCI 25-12, 26-28, 25-22 in the third-place match.
Hannah Dodd recorded six service points, three blocks, five assists and two digs for CPCI.
Tri-Point (10-17) defeated Watseka 25-16, 25-13 in the consolation championship as Brooke Conkling led the way with 14 service points and nine assists.
Mount Pulaski wins title
Mount Pulaski swept five matches to earn the championship in its own tournament.
The hosts went 3-0 in pool play, then defeated Auburn, 25-21, 25-21 in the semifinals and downed Effingham, 25-19, 25-14 in the championship match.
Hartem takes fifth
Hartsburg-Emden finished fifth in the Quincy Notre Dame Invitational with a 25-21, 19-25, 25-21 victory over Carbondale.
The Stags won their poll by defeating Hazelwood (Mo.) 25-7, 25-9 and Rockford Guilford 25-15, 25-17. Collinsville downed Hartem 21-25, 26-24, 25-21 before the Stags recovered to beat Burlington Central (Iowa), 25-17, 28-26.
The Stags' Chelsey Rankin and Abby Olson made the all-tournament team.
"The top eight teams had an average enrollment of 1,600. We have an enrollment of 82. I was very proud of my team," said Hartem coach Jennifer Hayes. "A lot of people came away from that tournament knowing where Hartsburg-Emden is located now."
