5 years ago (2001): Paul Campbell scored two goals to pace Calvary Baptist Academy's boys soccer team past Joliet Ridgewood, 3-0, in the Illinois Association of Christian Schools state championship game at Sale Barn Field. Greg Fahrenkrug also scored for the Crusaders, who won their first state soccer title since 1990.
15 years ago (1991): Richard Brolly scored three goals to pace Illinois State's soccer team to a 5-1 Missouri Valley Conference victory over Bradley. The five goals was a season high for the Redbirds, who had 28 total shots to three for Bradley, including 17 shots on goal to two for the Braves.
25 years ago (1981): Illinois State offensive guard Jeff Hembrough was one of 11 college seniors in the nation to be named as National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame Scholar-Athletes. The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder from Springfield Griffin carries a 3.85 cumulative grade average while majoring in chemistry.
50 years ago (1956): Bloomington High School's sophomore football team scored two touchdowns on its first two plays to pave the way to a 30-0 victory over Pekin. The first TD was a 65-yard end run by Don Groves. The next was an 85-yard shot through center by Bob Pietsch.
