MOUNT PROSPECT - University High School's Catherine Butts won her fourth singles match of the State Tennis Tournament Friday before bowing out in the consolation bracket.
The doubles teams of Ali Wulfers and Brianna Braastad of Normal Community and Tara Clemens and Emily White of Bloomington lost their consolation matches Friday and were eliminated.
Butts ousted Kristin Gobberg of Woodstock Marian, 6-2, 6-2, in her opening match Friday before dropping a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 decision to Katrina Moy of Aurora West.
Butts finished her season with a record of 21-7.
Clemens and White were outlasted, 6-4, 6-7, 6-4, in a fourth-round consolation match by Abby Winter and Amanda Gomez of St. Charles East.
Clemens and White were 3-2 at state and had a 22-18 season record.
"They had a really good year," BHS assistant coach Jon Michaels said. "For two sophomores to win three matches at state is really solid."
Wulfers and Braastad (25-8) lost a fourth-round consolation match to Amy Siemon and Jennifer Maruyama of Crystal Lake South, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
After the first two days of competition, Hinsdale Central leads the team standings with 38 points. NCHS is tied for 33rd with seven points, BHS is tied for 39th with six points and U High is tied for 45th with five points.
