Bloomington rode Andre Brown's 255 yards passing and two touchdowns to a 31-6 Big 12 Conference victory over Mattoon to complete its second straight unbeaten regular season. Mitch Tanney led Lexington over Ridgeview, 28-20, for its third straight 9-0 record and 32nd straight Midstate Conference win.
University High won the Class A State Golf Tournament at Danville Elks Country Club. After having its lead cut to two shots with nine holes left, U High put it all together as seniors John Handy, Cory Legner and Brady Knight led the Pioneers to a 330 score for a two-round 645 and a 27-stroke advantage over Bishop McNamara.
Bloomington High School won the Big 12 Conference girls tennis championship, led by Jill Joslin's singles title and Chris Branom's third-place finish. Normal Community won the Capitol Conference girls tourney with Menah Pratt winning in singles and Rachael Rouprich and Natalie White in doubles.
Chenoa's 20-point scoring blast in the final period swept the Redbirds to their 39th consecutive Midstate Conference conquest, 26-7 over El Paso. Tom Scott, the Mr. Outside of Chenoa's offense, and Jim Reeser, Mr. Inside, were ultimately responsible for grounding the previously unbeaten Comets.
