At Braidwood
Dwight earns Reed-Custer title: The No. 10-seeded Dwight High School volleyball team finished its surprising run through the Reed-Custer Class A Regional Thursday with a convincing 25-19, 25-9 championship match win over No. 3 seed CPCI at Braidwood.
Dwight (18-13-2) got 15 service points, including three aces, and four kills from junior Stephanie Humbert while sophomore Carly Perschnick recorded 12 kills and four service points. Katy Feddersen dished out 15 assists and Kelsey O'Donnell handed out 10 more assists for the Trojans.
Michael-Ann Kelly had seven kills and six service points for Dwight, and Megan Kohrt registered nine kills.
Dwight advances to the Hoopeston Area Sectional where the Trojans will face Coal City Tuesday in a 7:30 p.m. semifinal match-up.
CPCI finished its season with a 24-11 record.
At Jacksonville
Mount Pulaski rolls: Seniors Allison Durchholz and Amy Meister had eight and six kills, respectively, to lead the Hilltoppers as No. 4 seed Mount Pulaski defeated No. 5 seed Jacksonville Routt 25-8, 25-21 in the championship match of the Jacksonville Regional.
Mount Pulaski (23-14) advances to play No. 1 seed Camp Point Central at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the semifinals of the Beardstown Sectional.
Jeri Kaye Turner had 22 assists for Mount Pulaski while Liz Fanning and Chelsey Seitz added seven digs apiece. Christine Stoll had three blocks for the Toppers.
"The girls played well together tonight and everyone contributed," said Mount Pulaski coach Donna Dulle. "It was a team effort."
At Tremont
Dee-Mack claims title: The top-seeded Deer Creek-Mackinaw volleyball team rolled No. 10 seed El Paso-Gridley, 25-15, 25-17, to claim the Tremont Regional crown Thursday.
Dee-Mack (33-1-1) rode 11 kills by Alexa Price and 10 service points by Becca Meiron as the Chiefs advanced to the Olympia Sectional with the win. Dee-Mack will face Tolono Unity at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
El Paso-Gridley was led by Brittany Kiefer and Janelle James with four kills each. Kindi Bullard had four blocks while Marquie Fairchild had three service points for the Titans (19-11.)
At Minonk
Flanagan claims Minonk title: Megan Laughlin rang up 15 kills, eight service points, eight digs and five blocks to power the second-seeded Flanagan Falcons to the Fieldcrest Regional championship with a 28-26, 25-10 win over No. 7 seed Woodland.
Flanagan (29-7) got 16 assists and six digs from Liz Hillman while Meganne Forney chipped in with eight service points, six kills and six blocks. Karie Timmerman added six service points and five kills for the Falcons.
Woodland (17-10) was led by Tori Pflibsen with six kills, four service points and two blocks.
Flanagan advances to the Spring Valley Hall Sectional where the Falcons will face Peoria Christian in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
At Farmer City
Hartem downs Blue Ridge: Abby Olson and Natasha Johnston had 11 kills apiece to lead the Stags as No. 2 seed Hartsburg-Emden defeated host Blue Ridge 25-13, 25-18 to win the championship of the Blue Ridge Regional.
Olson also had a team-high nine service points for Hartem (32-4) while Johnston added eight blocks. Jillyn Cross led the Stags with 23 assists and five digs.
Senior outside hitter Sara Hurd had eight kills to lead No. 9 seed Blue Ridge (22-11). Devin Houser added four service points and eight digs for the Knights while senior Sarah Lytel led Blue Ridge with 15 assists. Senior libero Jessica Nichols also had eight digs for the Knights.
Hartsburg-Emden and No. 3 seed Maroa-Forsyth will meet in the second semifinal of the Olympia Sectional at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Stanford.
At Fisher
Olympia eliminated: The Spartans just missed advancing to their own sectional as No. 4 seed Tolono Unity knocked off No. 5 seed Olympia 25-13, 25-19 in the championship match of the Fisher Regional.
Tolono Unity will meet No. 1 seed Deer Creek-Mackinaw in the Olympia Sectional at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Lydia Schmidgall and Melissa Phillips had five kills apiece to lead the Spartans (19-12) while Kylie Carpenter and Taylor Eichelberger each recorded nine digs. Phillips also had two blocks for Olympia while Elizabeth Alberts had a team-high 11 assists.
"The girls played hard, but we struggled with our passing tonight and had too many mental mistakes," said Olympia coach Terry Melick. "We started a little shaky, but finished strong in the second game. Tolono Unity is a good team and the better team probably won tonight.
"I told the girls that one of my goals for the season was to get to 20 wins and we almost did that. We were a pretty young team so I'm looking forward to next year."
At Danville
PBL falls to Schlarman: Despite 17 service points and eight kills from senior Amanda Schmidt, No. 7 seed PBL dropped a tough 18-25, 25-21, 11-25 decision to host Danville in the championship match of the Schlarman Regional.
PBL (17-8) got five blocks each from Jenna Seibring and Rachel Kleinsteiber while Lauren Boman dished out 18 assists for the Panthers.
