EUGENE, Ore. -- Bloomington High School product Christin Wurth-Thomas placed second in the 1,500-meter run at the U.S. National Track and Field Championships at Hayward Field on Saturday, clocking a time of 4:06.00.
Thomas opened a big lead with one lap remaining, but was unable to hold off a late charge by Shannon Rowbury, who passed Wurth-Thomas down the stretch to win in of 4:05.07.
The race was Wurth-Thomas' third national runner-up finish, duplicating her 2007 outdoor and indoor showings.
Wurth-Thomas, who has a career and season best of 4:01.72, was third in last year's Olympic Trials. Her best national finish came when she won the 2008 indoor title.
