PBL 12, St. Thomas More 7
PBL running back Evan Edwards carried the ball 25 times for 80 yards and a touchdown as the Panthers overcame St. Thomas More 12-7 in a Sangamon Valley Conference game Friday night at Champaign.
Joe Camp added 38 yards on three carries for PBL. Tyler Overstreet scored the go-ahead touchdown for PBL on a 5-yard run with 50 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
Defensively for the Panthers, Richie Malivuk and Overstreet each intercepted a pass, and Edwards made a team-high 11 tackles. Jared Eichelberger contributed six tackles.
St. Thomas More's Dylan Ray had a game-high 169 yards on the ground, including a touchdown.
PBL improved to 5-2 overall and 5-0 in the conference. The Sabres dropped to 1-6, 0-5.
Iroquois West 28,Clifton Central 25
Senior running back Alex Hubert gained 200 yards rushing on 30 carries and had two touchdowns to lead Iroquois West over Clifton Central in a conference game at Gilman.
Hubert's 6-yard scoring run in the first quarter put the Raiders (4-3, 3-2) up early, 7-0. Kyle White then hauled in a 64-yard pass touchdown pass from quarterback Trace Coleman to give Iroquois West a 14-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
Comets (3-4, 2-3) quarterback John Meyer threw two touchdown passes in the second quarter, sandwiched around another Raiders score, to help Clifton cut the Raiders' lead to 20-13 at the half.
Hubert put the Raiders up for good as he caught an 81-yard scoring pass from Coleman with 10:19 remaining in the third.
Coleman finished nine of 17 for 108 yards through the air. Gronsky led the Comets with 128 rushing yards and 40 yards receiving.
Momence 48, Tri-Point 8
Tri-Point running back Nick Stanek rushed 16 times for a team-high 95 yards, but his Chargers fell to Momence in a Sangamon Valley game at Momence.
The Redskins (3-4, 3-2) led 41-0 at halftime and added one more touchdown in the third quarter. Francis Jepsen's 4-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter put Tri-Point on the board.
Payton Mogged contributed 43 rushing yards for the Chargers (1-6, 0-5).
