Spencer Campbell scored 17 points and handed out six assists and Nick Kronmiller added 16 points and a team-high six rebounds as Heyworth High School's basketball team earned a 60-54 nonconference win over defending Class A state champion Maroa-Forsyth on Tuesday night at Heyworth. | Box scores, schedules, stats

Tyler Gooden added 10 points for the Hornets, who built leads of 30-25 by halftime and 44-35 by the end of the third quarter.

"It was a great high school basketball game this early in the season," said Heyworth coach Terry Lootens. "We have a great rivalry with Maroa and it's great for us to win one here."

Matt Guymon paced Maroa-Forsyth with a game-high 19 points.

Other regular-season games

Fisher 53, Arcola 39: Mitch Elkins' game-high 26 points, including 14 in the first quarter, led the Bunnies to the nonconference victory in Fisher. Travis Bayler added nine for Fisher, which single-digit points in the both the first and third quarters.

El Paso-Gridley 80, Cornerstone Christian 41: Freshman Codey Funk scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Titans to the nonconference victory in El Paso. Seth Foor added 14, while Luke Roth scored 10. Cornerstone was paced by Jacob Veazey's 19 points and Jordan Barr's 13. Each snared nine rebounds.

Lowpoint-Washburn 75, Calvary Baptist 48: Josh McCorkle's 19 points weren't enough as Calvary Baptist (1-4) lost at home to Lowpoint-Washburn (4-1).

Freshman Tyler Ledbetter sank nine 3-pointers en route to 33 points, 31 in the first half alone, for Lowpoint-Washburn.

Warrensburg 63, GCMS 42: Despite a team-high 17 points from Bruce Hendricks, GCMS fell to Warrensburg-Latham in nonconference action at Gibson City.

Brandon Luttrell added nine points and Calab Cook had eight for GCMS. The Falcons stayed close in the first half, trailing only 24-22 at the intermission, before Warrensburg-Latham used a 21-7 scoring spurt in the third quarter to take a 45-29 advantage.

Flanagan 45, Roanoke-Benson 41: Alex Detwiler scored seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter as Flanagan notched its first victory in a nonconference contest at Flanagan.

Flanagan (1-3) trailed 31-29 after three quarters before using a 16-11 surge in the final period to secure the win. Andrew Delheimer added 11 points.

Jordan Fehr led all players with 20 points, 14 in the first half, for Roanoke-Benson.

Mount Pulaski 72, Sangamon Valley 20: Paul Foley scored 33 points to lead host Mount Pulaski to victory over Sangamon Valley. Kyle Titus added 13 points for the Hilltoppers.

PBL 56, Hoopeston Area 54: Kendall Cox scored a game-high 23 points and Thomas Rubarts added 14 as PBL held off a late Hoopeston rally to earn a Sangamon Valley Conference win at Paxton. Nolan Lee added eight points for the Panthers, who led 36-31 entering the fourth quarter.

At Athens

Pleasant Plains 51, Delavan 46: Delavan, which held leads of 29-22 at halftime and 39-35 after three quarters, was held to seven points in the final period in losing to Pleasant Plains in the championship game of the Athens Tournament. Brady Zimmer led the Panthers with 18 points while Jordan Zimmer had 12.

Hartsburg-Emden 62, Rochester 61: Dakin Bolen pumped in a game-high 25 points, 16 in the second half, as Hartsburg-Emden rallied to victory in the third-place game.

Dustin Bolen added 15 points and Jordan Folkman had 10 for Hartsburg-Emden, which trailed 53-43 after three periods. Seven points by Dakin Bolen in the fourth quarter fueled a 19-8 run that sealed the win for the Stags.
