NORMAL - Brad Wells and Blue Ridge's 1-3-1 offense proved to be too much to handle for the Calvary Baptist Academy basketball team as the Crusaders dropped a 73-49 nonconference decision to the Knights on Monday.
Wells, a 6-foot-5 senior forward, led all scorers with 22 points and was a force defensively with six blocks as Blue Ridge (7-3) jumped out to a 14-7 first quarter lead.
The Knights upped the margin to 39-17 at halftime and then outscored the Crusaders, 21-12, in the third quarter for a commanding 60-29 lead.
Zach Howerton netted 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Grant Touma added 15 points to lead the Crusaders (4-7).
"Wells is a player at both ends of the floor," said Calvary Baptist coach Mike Touma. "Blue Ridge ran a 1-3-1 offense and they ran it well."
Josh Lytel and Jonathan Cox each scored 11 points in support of Wells.
