NCHS 1, Quincy Notre Dame 0

For the second straight match, Jeremy Ried scored the only goal to lead host Normal Community High School to a 1-0 nonconference soccer win over Quincy Notre Dame Thursday at Normal.

Ried converted a Kyle Wallace assist with 16 minutes remaining as the Ironmen improved to 17-1-2 overall.

"I'm very pleased. I believe we played our best match of the season," said NCHS coach Don Ideran. "We did very well against what is year in and year out one of the better programs in the state."

The Ironmen had nine shots on goal while NCHS goalkeeper Bryce Johnson turned away all seven Quincy Notre Dame attempts.

U High 1, Peoria Notre Dame 1

An unassisted goal by University High senior Cameron Warner nearly held up for a Pioneer victory against highly touted and undefeated Peoria Notre Dame.

The Irish rallied to score with 10 minutes to play to pull even as the teams battled to a tie in a nonconference match at the U High field.

Warner's goal came midway through the opening period for a 1-0 halftime advantage before Alex Crowley tied the game at the 70-minute mark for Peoria Notre Dame (14-0-2).

"It was a tough game and probably the best game we've played all season," U High coach Bodo Fritzen said. "Peoria Notre Dame is one of the best teams in the state of Illinois and we gave them all they could handle."

The Pioneers (12-2-4) finished with six shots on goal to just four for Notre Dame. U High senior goaltender Jairon Crosson had two saves.

"The kids were enthused and performed well," Fritzen said. "This was our sixth game in five days, but the guys did well. I was very proud of their effort."

Sacred Heart-Griffin 2, Normal West 1

Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin scored an overtime goal to edge Normal West at Springfield.

"We played a very good, fundamental game. They are a tough team. They are really big and strong," West coach Val Walker said. "I was ready to walk away with a 1-1 tie. Their coach wanted to play overtime. Our kids played their heart out and still wanted to play more so I can only applaud that."

Tyler DeGroot scored the West goal on a Mark Backsmeier assist. The Wildcats' record is 10-7-1.

Sacred Heart-Griffin is 11-2-1.

Peotone 5, Central Catholic 1

Host Peotone rode a four-goal first half to a win over Central Catholic.

Central Catholic (8-8-1) managed eight shots on net but got its only goal on a Kendall Cox penalty kick in the second half. Saints goalkeeper Ben Kelch registered eight saves on 13 Peotone shots.

"We were outplayed in what was a very physical first half," said Central Catholic coach Sebastian Heiduschke. "However, I was pleased with the way we stepped up and played them even in the second half."

Calvary Baptist 0, Pana First Baptist 0

Despite 22 shots on goal, Calvary Baptist was unable to find the back of the net as the Crusaders and Pana First Baptist battled to a draw at Normal.

Calvary Baptist (3-7-2) outshot First Baptist, 31-5. Crusaders goalkeeper Jack Campbell recorded four saves.

"We did what we wanted to and moved the ball well, but just couldn't get it to go in," said Calvary coach Mike Touma. "This is our second straight game without a goal, and we really need to get back to putting the ball into the net."
