NORMAL - Laurent Robinson has Georgia on his mind. Robinson became the highest Illinois State selection in the NFL Draft in 23 years Saturday when the Atlanta Falcons selected the wide receiver in the third round.

"I'm real excited. Everybody is happy for me," Robinson said. "Now I have to focus on my new job."

The 6-foot-2, 199-pound Robinson was the 11th pick of the third round and the No. 75 choice overall. The last Redbird to hear his name called earlier was wide receiver Clarence Collins, who went to San Diego with the 62nd pick in 1984.

"Good size. He can run," said draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. on the ESPN telecast of Robinson. "Very athletic."

Robinson joins an Atlanta offense that features dynamic quarterback Michael Vick and recently acquired veteran receiver Joe Horn.

"It's going to be the chance of a lifetime to play with a real elite athlete," Robinson said of Vick. "I'm anxious to get to my new city and get familiar with the coach (Bobby Petrino) and quarterback and get familiar with the area. I'm anxious to learn new stuff and help my new team."

Robinson was the 11th wide receiver selected.

"There was a lot of speculation about me going third round or early the second day," he said. "But now I can sleep good tonight. I can relax (Sunday) or watch the draft if I want. If not, I'll enjoy the moment and enjoy the weekend."

Robinson, who holds ISU career records for receptions (192) and receiving yards (3,007), gives the Redbirds a draft pick for the third straight season. Boomer Grigsby went to Kansas City in the fifth round in 2005 and Brent Hawkins was a fifth-round pick of Jacksonville in 2006.

ISU has not had players drafted in three straight years since Collins in '84, Mike Prior in 1985 and Jim Meyer in 1986.
