SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. -- University of Illinois golf coach Mike Small fired a 3-under-par 68 in Wednesday's final round of the PGA Professional National Championship for a 277 total and edged Mark Sheftic of Sandy, Utah, and Steve Schneiter of Ambler, Pa., by a stroke for the title at Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
It was Small's second PGA club pro crown, with the other coming in 2005. The top 20 finishers advanced to next month's PGA Championship at Hazeltine Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
Steve Orrick, Jr., a Bloomington native who is the head pro at Country Club of Decatur, tied for 29th place after a 72-285.
