PBL 28, Clifton Central 26

PBL senior running back Evan Edwards carried the ball 40 times for 194 yards and a touchdown to help the Panthers overcome Clifton Central High School 28-26 in a Sangamon Valley Conference game at Clifton Friday night.

Quarterback Tyler Overstreet scored three rushing touchdowns for the Panthers (4-2, 4-0) while gaining 106 total yards. Edwards led PBL defensively with 10 tackles.

Overstreet put the Panthers ahead with a 21-yard touchdown run in the first quarter. The Comets (2-2, 3-3) answered with their first score to make it 6-6.

Clifton Central running back Mike Gronsky's two second quarter touchdowns sandwiched by another Overstreet score made it 20-13 Comets at halftime.

The Panthers were able to take control in the second half as Edwards' 1-yard touchdown run followed by the two-point conversion put them ahead by one heading into the final quarter. With just over 11 minutes left in the game Overstreet made it an eight point game with his third rushing touchdown.

Gronsky responded with his third touchdown to cut PBL's lead to two. Overstreet then put the game away for the Panthers with an interception late in the fourth quarter.

Iroquois West 42, Momence 14

Senior Alex Hubert ran for 244 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Iroquois West over Momence (2-4, 2-2) in a Sangamon Valley Conference game at Gilman.

Trace Coleman threw a 38-yard pass to Kyle White to open the scoring for the Raiders (3-3, 2-2) before Hubert scored his first touchdown on a 2-yard run as Iroquois West took a 14-0.

Momence (2-4, 2-2) got into the scoring column on a 82-yard kickoff return by Devan McNeal to cut the lead to 14-7. Coleman added a 1-yard TD run near the end of the first quarter to give the Raiders a 21-7 lead.

The second quarter was all Hubert's as he scored on runs of 47 yards and 8 yards. Momence got a 42-yard TD pass from McNeal to Drew Sain to make the score at halftime 35-14.

Hubert ended the scoring with an 88-yard run.

Watseka 38, Tri-Point 22

Payton Mogged rushed for 118 yards in a losing cause as Watseka (3-3, 2-2) defeated Tri-Point (1-5, 0-4) in a SVC game at Piper City.

Nick Stanek got the Chargers on the board first with a 36-yard run to make it 6-0 in the first quarter.

Then Watseka scored the next three touchdowns on a 10-yard run by Zach Gray and two touchdown runs by Patrick Bechely of 4 and 16 yards. Watseka led at halftime 18-6.

Watseka came out after the break and scored on touchdown runs of 13 yards and 21 yards by Bechely and a 6-yard pass from Zach Gray to Jake Hasselbring.

Tri-Point scored in the third quarter on a 52-yard pass from Zach Jepsen to Maurice Horton. Jepsen added a 10-yard TD pass to Ian Conklin in the final period.

Stanek ran for 90 yards on 17 carries and had 12 tackles to lead the Chargers.
