NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Illinois State swim team placed third for the second consecutive year in the Notre Dame Relays Friday night, scoring 144 points. Notre Dame won with 273 followed by Ball State with 182.

"Overall, I think we performed at expectations," said ISU coach Steve Paska. "We were a little behind where we want to be in regards to the sprint races, but at the same time I think we did exceptionally well on some of our longer races."

Paska was especially impressed with the runner-up 400-yard freestyle relay of Kathleen Borkovec, Rebekah Layman, Jamie Haseman and Kyle Pullman, who clocked 3 minutes, 38.72 seconds.

"These four ladies were consistent and had a dynamite race," said Paska, who was also pleased by the efforts of junior Christine Steinbach and sophomore Allison Fishbein.

In diving, ISU's Katie Janonis placed fourth on the one-meter board with 217.10 points.

"The girls were nervous tonight," said ISU diving Coach Alison Cipri. "I think this meet was more of a confidence builder than anything for the divers."
