5 years ago (2001): Bloomington High's girls tennis team moved into position to claim fourth straight Big 12 Conference Tournament crown by winning four of the six singles titles. BHS winners were Jenny Walz (No. 2), Carmela Willitz (4), Jackie Belletete (5) and Kassie Michaels (6). Jill Anderson of NCHS won in No. 1 singles.
15 years ago (1991): University High cornerback Dan Sullivan intercepted a Peru St. Bede pass and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown to thwart a late fourth quarter Bruins comeback and lift the Pioneers to their first victory, 13-6, before a homecoming crowd at Hancock Stadium.
25 years ago (1981): David James' goal with 10 minutes remaining lifted Illinois State's soccer team to a 3-2 victory over Lewis University. Bryan Beernink scored two goals as Calvary Baptist Academy goalies Tim Weniger and Bruce Hockema blanked Calvary Christian of Charleston, 5-0.
50 years ago (1956): Few stock car drivers around can "hold that Tiger" when Les "Tiger" Snow of Bloomington roars onto the track. The husky 30-year-old mechanic ranks second in the United States Auto Club point standings, trailing Johnny Mantz of California by a scant 83 points with a total of 1,251.
