Phebe Scott, who oversaw the women's athletic department at Illinois State from 1966 to 1973 and became a national leader in the early promotion of women's athletics, will receive a lifetime achievement award from the National Association of Collegiate Women Athletics Administrators.
Scott, who also co-chair the men's and women's athletic departments for three years, was one of the founding commissioners of the first National Intercollegiate Basketball Championship for Women in 1972.
She will receive the award Oct. 7 in St. Petersburg, Fla., with Joanna Davenport (posthumously), Auburn; Carla Lowry, Southwestern, Barbara Jo Palmer, Florida State; and Sandra Shuler, North Carolina Central.
