5 years ago (2002): The 19th Pantagraph Honor Roll Meet was blessed with sunny, windless conditions and Bloomington's Tiffany Gaston responded by winning three girls track events. Double winners in the boys meet were Matt Dunham of Pontiac, Chase Slover of Metamora and Jimmy Schultz of Olympia.

15 years ago (1992): Todd Kurz was a two-way star in Central Catholic's 17-7 baseball win over LeRoy in the University High Class A Regional. Kurz collected four hits, including a three-run homer, and drove in five runs. He also pitched six innings and improved his record to 3-2.

25 years ago (1982): Normal Community junior Keith Bruch led from start to finish in both the 1600- and 3200-meter runs at the Champaign Class AA District track meet to qualify for next week's state meet in two events. His time in the 3200 was a record 9 minutes, 23.4 seconds on the quick Memorial Stadium track.

50 years ago (1957): Cal Neeman's single with two outs in the ninth inning gave the Chicago Cubs their first Wrigley Field victory this year, 4-3 over the New York Giants. Neeman, an Illinois Wesleyan University graduate, is the Cubs' starting catcher.
