Girls basketball roundup: Hot shooting propels Saints to win

The Central Catholic High School girls' basketball team shot 53 percent from the field and held PBL to 12 total points in the second and third quarters in a 75-38 nonconference victory Monday night in Bloomington. | Box scores, schedules and stats

Carly Norton led the Saints (4-1) with 12 points, while Amanda Murray and Danielle Highland each added 11. Jess Reinhart snared six rebounds and Jacqui Reinhart added five.

Alyssa Swan paced the Wolves with nine points.

Ridgeview 48, Blue Ridge 39

Lauren Kellar and Lauren Nord combined for 26 points to lead host Ridgeview past Blue Ridge in the Heart of Illinois Conference opener for both teams at Colfax.

Nord had 13 points and a game-high eight rebounds for Ridgeview (5-1, 1-0 HOIC) while Kellar also scored 13 for the Mustangs.

Blue Ridge (2-5, 0-1) was led by Parker Eckhoff and Devin House with 11 points each.

Heyworth 53, Fieldcrest 44

Laura Klawitter and Rachel Wood scored 13 points apiece to lead the Hornets as Heyworth won its HOIC season opener at Minonk.

Heyworth led 30-17 at the half and 43-24 after three quarters before the Knights cut the deficit in the final period.

Alex Roberts added 11 points for the Hornets (4-1, 1-0).

Megan Winkler scored 12 points to lead Fieldcrest (1-3, 0-1). Heather Flanigan added nine points while Katie Rients grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Knights on the boards.

Fisher 49, Lexington 36

The Bunnies outscored the hosts 32-20 in the first half and never looked back in the HOI victory at Lexington.

Savannah Piety finished with a game-high 17 points for Fisher (5-0, 1-0), while Tiffany Wallick added 15. Amy Rigsby scored 10 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had eight steals. Jenna Bean's 11 points led the Minutemen (3-3, 0-1).

Deer Creek-Mackinaw 67, LeRoy 15

The Chiefs held LeRoy to two first-half points en route to an HOIC win at LeRoy.

Ashli Silverthorn led a balanced Dee-Mack scoring attack with 15 points, while Kaleigh Beaty and Michelle Martin each scored 13. Courtney Stills had nine points to lead the Panthers.

EPG 52, Tri-Valley 33

Kindi Bullard's recorded game-highs with 23 points and 15 rebounds as El Paso-Gridley opened its HOIC season with a convincing win over Tri-Valley at El Paso.

Maggie Murphy added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Titans (3-1, 1-0), who jumped out to 17-4 first quarter lead and were never threatened.

Tanna Hinthorne led Tri-Valley (2-2, 0-1) with seven points and nine rebounds.

Midwest Central 65, Tremont 42

Midwest Central outscored the Turks were outscored 27-8 in the third quarter to extend a 29-20 halftime lead in a nonconference win over host Tremont.

Erica Miller led Tremont (1-2) with 17 points, while Nicole Wagenbach had 12. Alex Blair scored 40 points to lead Midwest Central.

GCMS 45, Watseka 44

Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley used a 16-10 fourth quarter run to rally past Watseka in a nonconference contest at Gibson City.

Sarah Petersen scored 13 points and pulled down eight rebounds for GCMS (4-1) as the Falcons had eight players in the scoring column.

Katie Cowan scored a game-high 14 points to lead Watseka.

Dwight 41, Coal City 33

Dwight's Kolby Hoffman sank four of six free throws during a 19-5 fourth-quarter run to put the Trojans (3-3, 1-0) ahead of Coal City (5-2, 0-1) for good in an Interstate Eight Conference game at Dwight.

Hoffman led all scorers with 10 points while teammates Chloe Trewartha and Chaney Tambling scored eight points each.

Brimfield 72, Roanoke-Benson 32

Kelsey Sauder led the Rockets (3-4) with eight points and teammates Hannah Knepp and Melissa Yount added seven points each in a nonconference loss to Brimfield (7-1).

Monticello 91, Clinton 16

Freshman Brooklyn Gregory scored six points to lead Clinton (0-5) in an Okaw Valley Conference loss at Clinton.

Mahomet-Seymour 62, Urbana 47

The Bulldogs outscored Urbana 23-13 in the fourth quarter to turn a five-point lead into the double-digit nonconference victory at Mahomet.

Kelly Thompson scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed nine boards, while Dani Bunch had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Mahomet shot 52 percent (22-of-42) from the field.

Tri-Point 43, Grant Park 20

The Chargers held Grant Park scoreless in the third quarter and limited it to nine points through three quarters in the victory at Grant Park. Jodi Meister led all scorers with 15 points, while Morgan Tharp and Brittany Juergens each added eight for Tri-Point.

Rochester 71, Illini Central 22

Brea Kalhammer scored six points to lead Illini Central as the Cougars fell to Rochester in a Sangamo Conference game at Rochester.

Kendra Koeppen grabbed eight rebounds to lead Illini Central (1-5) on the boards.

Auburn 52, Mount Pulaski 48

Despite 12 points from Meghan Moore and 10 from Megan Volle, a fourth-quarter Mount Pulaski rally came up just short as the Hilltoppers (1-4) dropped a nonconference game to host Auburn.

Mindy Spear and Ashley Southerlan each chipped in nine points for Mount Pulaski.

At Athens

Illini Central 51, Athens 30: Sophomore forward Danny Harman scored a game-high 15 points to lead Illini Central to victory over host Athens in the seventh-place game of the Warrior Classic.

Harman had nine points in the second quarter as the Cougars stretched a 12-7 lead after one period to 30-11 at the half.

Landon Frye added nine points for Illini Central while Sam Means had eight.
