5 years ago (2002): Quarterback Andre Brown led Bloomington on a 69-yard scoring drive to open the second half and the Raiders scored all of their points in the third quarter to blank Normal Community, 13-0. Tyler Shoemaker's 14-yard touchdown pass to Nick Chiodo with 1:47 remaining lifted University High over Central Catholic, 24-20.
15 years ago (1992): The Bloomington Hearts fastpitch softball team won the Bob Dennison Tournament at Maxwell Park, going 4-0 in the tourney including a 7-0 victory over Beer Nuts in the final game. The Hearts' Scott Plangger silenced Beer Nuts on four hits.
25 years ago (1982): The Bloomington Hearts, as they did throughout the Amateur Softball Association Fast Pitch Midwest Regional Tournament at Aurora, rode the shutout pitching of Bill Kennedy and defeated Aurora Home Savings, 3-0, in 11 innings in the championship game to earn their first trip to the national finals.
50 years ago (1957): Don Berry's two-hit pitching and Frank Cremeens' two-run homer in the fifth inning pulled Minier over Armington, 3-1, in a Tazewell County League baseball opener. Berry struck out 13 batters to shade Dave Knoblock, who gave up just six hits and fanned 10.
