Thanks to sophomore linebacker Justin Harrison and the rest of the defense, Bloomington is going to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs after holding off Springfield Southeast, 14-7. Harrison led the Raiders with 12 tackles. Preston Glover added 11 tackles and an interception as BHS improved to 10-0.
Illinois Wesleyan split end Chris Bisaillon matched the Division III career record with his 39th touchdown reception but found no cause to celebrate after the Titans' emotional 38-35 loss to Augustana. Bisaillon also returned a punt 78 yards for a touchdown.
Sean Moskwa of Downers Grove defeated Dennis McDowell of Bloomington, 21-13, 11-21, 11-9 to capture the men's pro-am division of the Self Magazine-Spalding Racquetball Classic Tournament at Bloomingdale. McDowell is the manager of Courtside III.
Trinity trimmed University High 14-7 to gain an undisputed Intercity football championship. The Saints scored twice in the second period on Steve Frost's six-yard pass to fullback Ron Carlson and Jim Shipley's two-yard jab off the left side of the line.
