5 years ago (2002): Junior quarterback Dylan Ward threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns and Prairie Central held on in the second half for a 41-27 victory over Olympia in Corn Belt Conference football. Prairie Central is ranked No. 10 in Class 4A.
15 years ago (1992): Phil Aldridge of Bloomington won the Greater Peoria Open by shooting a 75 at Newman Golf Course to card a two-round score of 143. Aldridge fired a 68 at Kellogg Golf Course on the first day.
25 years ago (1982): About 250 people watched 68 entries vie in eight classes at a mud drag sponsored by the Fairbury Jaycees at Limestone Transit, U.S. 24 West. Wes Kanaga of Washington nabbed the cash and trophy prize as King of the Mud, driving a 1978 Ford Bronco.
50 years ago (1957): While some 5,100 rabid prep football followers screamed with delight, Bloomington and Trinity whacked away at each other for 48 minutes and the net result was a 7-7 draw. Tony Jaskowiak rambled 60 yards for Trinity's touchdown and BHS scored on a pass from Bill James to Joe Green.
