The Bloomington High School volleyball team won three of four matches Saturday at the Minooka Invitational to take second place behind the play of all-tournament team selections Kristin Stauter and Ashley Beyer. U High finished third in the tournament with Kyndell Highland receiving all-tournament team honors.

Bloomington (28-3) defeated Newark 25-9, 25-13 and Johnsburg 25-11, 25-6 before meeting the Pioneers in the semifinals.

The Raiders defeated U High 25-21, 25-19 behind seven service points and 22 assists from Stauter and nine kills and 11 digs from Beyer.

Kristin Petrinec added seven kills and one block for BHS, while Alli Kirk had six service points and eight digs.

St. Charles North defeated the Raiders 25-17, 25-17 in the championship game despite nine kills and seven digs from Beyer. Petrinec added seven kills for BHS, while Stauter had 18 assists.

"The kids played pretty well. I was happy with their effort," said BHS coach Joe Sanders. "It was a good tournament for us."

U High (20-11) rebounded to defeat Elgin St. Edward 25-23, 20-25, 25-21 in the third-place game and won three of four matches for the tournament.

Highland finished with 21 kills for the two matches on Saturday while Maggie Bee recorded 25 assists. Ashlee Sang had 20 digs for the Pioneers on the day.

"The Bloomington match wasn't our best. We had a lot of unforced errors," U High coach Cathy Sanders said. "And against St. Edward, we were down in both games we won and had to fight back and earn every point. We reached 20 wins for the regular season which was a big goal for us to reach."
