STANFORD - First, Emily England hit the ball. Then, the ball hit her.

"Any way to get on base," the Olympia High School sophomore said.

England was four for four in that regard Saturday, reaching twice on singles and twice when hit by pitches.

Her teammates cashed in, driving England home three times in an 11-1, six-inning victory over Central Catholic in the championship game of the Olympia Class A Regional softball tournament.

"The hitters behind me all have a lot of RBIs this year," England said. "I'm really confident in what they can do."

Freshman Keri Leach benefited the most from England's presence on the bases. Leach drove her in twice, including a pivotal two-run triple in the fourth.

Olympia led 3-1 before the left-handed hitting Leach sent a line drive over the left fielder's head, scoring Lindsay Watkins and England for a 5-1 cushion.

"I heard their coach say to keep it low," Leach said. "I was just looking for that low pitch."

The top-seeded Spartans pulled away from there behind the two-hit pitching of Watkins to advance to the Clinton Sectional semifinals. Olympia (34-2) meets fourth-seeded Hartsburg-Emden at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Clinton.

Leach, the No. 4 hitter, had two hits and three RBI, while freshman Courtney Martin added a single, two RBI and two runs scored. Leach, Martin and England were a combined five for nine with five runs and five RBI.

"They have played well all year long," Olympia coach Al Toliver said of his underclassmen. "Keri has really stepped into that role. People can't pitch around Jessie (Gourdier) any more. They're going to pay if they do."

Olympia loaded the bases in the first against Central's Lauren Huebsch (7-15) on a single by England, a walk to Gourdier and a single by Leach. Martin and Kaylee West followed with fielder's choice RBI grounders.

Eighth-seeded Central (12-20) pulled within 2-1 in the top of the fourth. Jamie Peel led off with a walk and moved to second on Kara Kirkpatrick's sacrifice bunt. Peel scored when Amanda Murray looped a single into right field and the ball skipped past the right fielder for an error.

Olympia scored quickly in the bottom of the inning on a leadoff single by Carrie Williams, a sacrifice by Kelsey Wilson, a stolen base and a wild pitch. A Watkins single and England hit-by-pitch then set up Leach's two-out triple.

"I thought that was the key hit," Central coach Mark Demboski said. "If we could have got out of that inning, I thought maybe we could keep it close.

"They put a lot of pressure on you. I thought we played pretty well defensively and Lauren did an OK job of hitting her spots, but they're just so good."

Olympia had 13 hits, including two each from England, Leach, West and Williams. Williams and Wilson had two RBI apiece.

Watkins (14-1) struck out six and walked three, allowing no earned runs.

"She wasn't on her 'A' game, but when your pitchers can battle when they're not on their 'A' game and win, it's a bonus," Toliver said.

The Spartans earned a rematch with Hartsburg-Emden, which knocked off Olympia in the regional last year.

"I think we'll be ready to play," Toliver said.
