Meets run Oct. 7
Normal West High School senior Cory Nanni won the 30th annual Runnin' Red Invitational cross country meet at Metamora Saturday, running 2.94 miles in 15 minutes, 5 seconds to edge runner-up Blake Brooks of Dunlap by one second.
Nanni and seventh-placer Jonny Kaufmann (15:59) helped the Wildcats finish third with 100 points. Normal Community, led by Chris Poulard in 13th, took sixth with 146. Metamora won with 55.
In the girls division, Normal West placed fourth (141) while NCHS was fifth (143) and Pontiac 19th (514). The top Pantagraph area finisher was Olivia Myers of NCHS in eighth (18:11). Kayla Braffet led Normal West in 16th (18:47).
Three-time Class A state champion Katelyn Bastert ran 16:46 to win by 28 seconds over Peoria Notre Dame's Caitlin Comfort.
Mahomet sweeps own meet
Mahomet-Seymour swept the boys and girls titles in its own invitational, scoring 78 points in the boys division while the No. 18-state ranked girls tallied 27 with help from individual champion Jackie Waldman.
Waldman covered the 5,000-meter course in 18:25 to win by 23 seconds over teammate Hannah Schaap. Other Bulldog scorers were Sarah Forbes (5th, 19:14), Josi Parker (11th, 19:26) and Jessica Butcher (12th, 19:35).
University High placed sixth (142), Central Catholic 10th (249) and Clinton 14th (366).
In the boys division, Central Catholic ran second (80), U High third (110), Prairie Central 13th (317) and Clinton 16th (394).
The top area finishers were Mahomet-Seymour's Justin Sebens (fifth, 15:53), Central Catholic's John Curran (seventh, 16:02) and U High's Kyle Erickson (10th, 16:20).
Matt Feldhake of Effingham St. Anthony won in 15:20.
