5 years ago (2002): Bloomington junior James Wade rushed for 237 yards and two touchdowns in a dazzling display of speed and power running to help the unbeaten Purple Raiders run their regular-season winning streak to 34 games with a 24-3 triumph over Champaign Centennial.

15 years ago (1992): Goals by freshmen Jamie Burton and Nick Kerry hoisted Illinois State to a 2-1 soccer victory over Arkansas-Little Rock at Adelaide Street Field, improving the Redbirds' season record to 9-5-2.

25 years ago (1982): In one swift move this year, women's sports programs at Illinois State and nine other universities formed the Gateway Conference and named Patricia Viverito to be commissioner. Besides ISU, six other Missouri Valley schools joined to save travel expense.

50 years ago (1957): Needle-sharp passing by Larry Engle led Lincoln to a 13-7 homecoming football victory over Normal Community. Engle threw touchdown passes of 33 yards to John Kopp and 17 yards to Woody Jones.
