Saints earn tie

Central Catholic's John Zappa scored in the 28th minute to ensure a 1-1 tie against Peoria Christian at Bloomington.

Zappa took a pass from teammate Andrew Tank on the right side of the penalty box, beat one defender and drove a shot into the lower left-hand corner of the goal to put the Saints up 1-0. Peoria Christian tied the game in the 38th minute by depositing a loose ball coming off a corner kick.

West kicks Mount Zion

Senior Nate Gottsacker collected four goals and three assists while Mark Backsmeier had two goals and one assist to lead Normal West to an 11-1 win over Mount Zion at Normal.

Matt Barnet added a goal and two assists for West (13-5-3). Lucas Trower and Cameron Pollit each had a goal and an assist, and Tyler DeGroot and TJ Lemons had a goal apiece. Goalie James Bangen made three saves for the Wildcats.

Centennial downs BHS

Ben Hertzog and Kyle Bullock had two goals each as Centennial built a 3-0 halftime lead en route to a 5-1 Big 12 Conference win over Bloomington at Champaign.

BHS (8-8-4, 4-4-2) averted the shutout when Danny Wright scored off a Sergey Chuvich assist with 20 minutes remaining. Centennial, which improved to 8-0-2 in the Big 12, had a 16-2 edge in shots on goal.
