Jerod Eigsti netted a game-high 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while Jim Tharp added 20 points, a game-high 20 boards and four blocks as the Eureka High School boys basketball team downed winless Rantoul 63-49 in Corn Belt Conference action at Eureka on Friday night.
Eureka, 3-3 overall, 2-1 in the conference, led 28-23 at halftime before Rantoul rallied for a 35-34 advantage midway through the third quarter. The Hornets answered with a 13-0 run at the end of the third period and into the fourth to take back the lead at 47-35.
"Tharp and Eigsti played very well,'' said Eureka coach Tim Meiss. "Overall, I was pleased with our defense."
Austin Shreves paced Rantoul (0-6, 0-2) with 18 points.
Other game
Mahomet-Seymour 63, Prairie Central 50: Luke Radliff scored 20 points to lead Mahomet-Seymour's balanced attack over Prairie Central in a league game at Fairbury.
Clint Davis scored a game-high 24 points for Prairie Central (2-4, 0-2), which could not overcome being held to four points in the first quarter.
Marcus Robinson added 12 points for Mahomet-Seymour (3-5, 2-1), which had five players score in double figures.
