5 years ago (2002): Illinois Wesleyan cruised to a 79-55 triumph over Dominican University in its home opening basketball game. Titan forward Luke Kasten found enough seams in Dominican's zone defense to score 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting from the field and Seth Hubbard chipped in 14.
15 years ago (1992): Thanks to Davin Harris, the University of Illinois celebrated its Thanksgiving with a 1-0 basketball record. Harris, a Bloomington High School graduate, came off the bench to score seven points and spearhead an Illini second-half turnaround toward an 86-78 overtime win against Dayton in the Great Alaska Shootout.
25 years ago (1982): Central Catholic settled matters early with a 28-point explosion in the first half on its way to a 38-0 victory over Casey for the Class 2A state football championship. Dave Schilkoski had 116 yards and two touchdowns in the first-half avalanche and finished with 135 yards.
50 years ago (1957): Gibson City's height advantage took its toll of Forrest-Strawn-wing but it remained for the smallest Greyhound-5-foot-6 Gene Gregory-to score with seven seconds left to play and give the hosts a 57-55 victory in the season opener for both schools.
